When to use submersible pump cables?

Submersible pump cables are specifically designed to power submersible pumps and irrigation motors, but they can also be used for other applications. They are usually resistant to water, oil, sunlight and all kinds of weather and are therefore preferable for use in harsh terrain and environments. You will find 3-4 colour-coded conductors with specially developed insulation layers. They offer good flexibility, abrasion resistance and mechanical protection. The cables have been tested for durability, strength and performance.

What are the different qualities of the conductors used in submersible cables?

The conductors of submersible pump cablesd are flat or round and have a main voltage rating of 600 V. They are made of soft and uncoated copper with low conductor resistance and good flux capacity according to industry standards (ASTM B3 and B8). Depending on the use, you can obtain cables with control and power conductors. The conductors are colour coded and have the following specifications.

Red - Positive (start winding)
Black - negative (run winding)
Yellow - mains hot
Green - ground

What type of submersible pump cable is best for the well?

Most cables come with a code or stamp that indicates to the user whether the cable can be used for well water. Submersible cables can be used for most applications, including wells where cable flexibility is required. These cables are resistant to friction, oil and grease. The cables have specially designed insulation and sheathing, making them ideal for industrial use. Look out for PVC insulation or EPR insulation, which are highly resistant to oil, grease and water, have a low swelling mass, are mechanically stable and chemically inert. The cables come with an integral sheath and in some cases with a double sheath. The jacket is also resistant to oil, grease and water, has a low swelling mass and is mechanically stable and chemically inert.

Which type of submersible pump cable is recommended for heavy duty applications?

RuiTian Cable's submersible pump cables "can be used for a variety of applications where additional mechanical protection is required. Where additional strength and durability is required, double jacketed and EPR insulated cables are recommended. The jacket has an impenetrable net that can be easily peeled off during installation. The design of the jacket provides both flexibility and mechanical protection.

What types of cable are suitable for irrigation systems?

Other types are available for general purpose irrigation systems, such as power and lighting. You can choose cables with solid or stranded copper conductors with individual PVC or EPR insulation. They are designed to withstand the extreme conditions to which they may be exposed and are waterproof and moisture-proof.

Underground feeder cables have a flat parallel design and uninsulated earth conductors. The outer sheath provides the much needed protection and is therefore made of robust PVC.

Should I buy a 2-wire system or a 3-wire system for my well?

It is actually what we call a 2 plus 1 green earth cable and a 3 plus 1 green earth cable. As a rule, a 2-wire pump is likely to be cheaper and definitely easier to install. However, when you have to do maintenance, you will prefer the 3-wire system because it has a control box on the ground. A 2-wire system, on the other hand, will have a "control unit" inside the submerged motor, so you will have to consider pulling the motor up to check what is wrong.

Do I need to replace the cables when installing a new pump?

If the sheathing and insulation are not worn, you can reuse the old cables as they will last a long time and are very durable. However, if you are replacing an old 2-wire system with a 3-wire system, and vice versa, it is best to buy a new system that fits the system.

How do I measure the correct gauge wire for the diving cable I need?

To determine the correct gauge wire required, select the correct voltage, phase and horsepower required. You must also consider the length of cable required, as the pump may be several hundred feet underwater. For example, for a distance of 270 feet, 1 horsepower and a 2-wire cable, 14 AWG will be required. you must also determine the required service life of the cable, as the pump will remain in place and underwater for a long period of time.

Can submersible cables be used in extreme temperatures?

Normal cables, both flat and round, can be used at voltages of around 600 V at a maximum of 75 o C. They can work even when the temperature drops to -25 o C. Cables can be used at such temperatures even at a depth of 900 feet. However, the cable must be designed with industry standards in mind.

In the event of a fault, do I have to cut the cable to take a reading?

This is not necessary, as you can take an ohmic reading instead. You can take readings from both ends to determine where the fault lies. Alternatively, you can use a clamp-on ammeter to check for faults. Just in case you have to dig in, you can then start halfway through to determine which half has the problem. This will reduce the amount of cutting you have to do.
